WebIt is excellent software. Open source and actively developed. I like it more than sonos and in my opinion it is a very good alternative. Now to sound quality of the hifiberry amp2. As my speakers are quite sensitive, 91,5 dB, the 30 watts are enough to fill my living room. If you are willing to forgo the case (or source your own), you can assemble the PecanPi Streamer Ultra for less than half of the price. And therein lies the inherent problem with enthusiast-built devices.

It costs USD $59.90 which is quite cheap for balanced output. I think the cheapest stand-alone DAC with XLR output that I have tested was US $150 ( Massdrop Grace SDAC Balanced ). WebGreat sound, clean and clear, with none of the background noise found on the Raspberry Pi onboard analog output. Definitely worth the cost of this tiny DAC. As noted by another reviewer, the installation is not plug and play, but I am not taking a star off for that.

In reality 24-bit audio is about the highest quality you can buy and it’s questionable whether human ears can resolve any higher anyway.
